Blu-ray 3D
3D Standard Added to Blu-ray.
Combined with the newest LED 3D TVs from Samsung and others, you truly have a 3D theatrical experience in your home.
Blu-ray now supports 3D and the release of dvds in 3D by famous filmmakers delivers it to your living room. With amazing 3D quality, Blu-ray 3D enters 2010 with a rash of Hollywood releases.
Blu-ray now supports the newest 3D movies with superior technology. Navigation menus utilizing a 3D type of effect offer another level of wow! Early Blu-ray players will not be able to play Blu-ray 3D videos. Though you might have to update your current Blu-ray player if your using the PC then you will only need to update the software. 2X speed or more is needed to play the new 3D movies but most new Blu-ray drives are at least this fast. Fortunately, all but the first generation of BD-ROM and BD-R drives are 2X or faster.
The new spec allows for 3D menus and navigation interface. Menu and subtitle graphics and text can be defined to appear on a plane that is offset from the screen. You can specify the plane of the previews to appear to be closer or further in distance. A little 3D magic gives the text that 3D look.

Upgrading to 3D
To enjoy Blu-ray 3D titles, consumers must upgrade their PC or their home theater system. To get 3D in your home there are several items you will need to update;
- A display monitor capable of the newer 3D technology, either a new monitor, new desktop display or new notebook with 3D built in
- A PC with Blu-ray 3D player software, or a (set-top) Blu-ray 3D player
- 3D Glasses (Make sure they are compatible with your display)
To choose the right solution, there are some important things to consider for each of these components.
TV Monitors that support 3D
The 3D display technology is not specific to the Blu-ray 3D and you have several choices. This allows consumers to choose the 3D display technology that best meets their needs. If possible choose a monitor with 240Hz refresh rate but 120Hz will work. LC active shutter glasses that work with frame sequential displays are best (such as Samsung’s). Polarizing displays and glasses from the past era work but are not as slick.
Blu-ray 3D Players
Blu-ray 3D players can be implemented as a software solution, such as CyberLink PowerDVD 10 Ultra*, or as a dedicated hardware solution, otherwise known as a set-top Blu-ray player. Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) game consoles are expected to get a firmware upgrade in the summer of 2010, providing support for Blu-ray 3D.
